Network
Shielded at the edge. Filtered at the port.
Dual-layer Cloudflare Edge Shielding stops malicious traffic instantly before it ever reaches your hardware. Our own mitigation machines in London halt what remains, from layer 3 floods to layer 7 abuse.

How it works
Two layers, one path.
-
01
The edge
Your address is announced from an edge network of 330+ cities. An attack is absorbed at the location nearest its source and malicious traffic is dropped there, before it crosses the Atlantic or the Channel, let alone reaches your hardware.
-
02
Our mitigation
Traffic that clears the edge lands on dedicated mitigation machines on our London network. Any remaining layer 3 and 4 attack is halted outright, then in-house, custom-made layer 7 filters, built for the huge range of applications our users run, are applied before a packet reaches your port.
-
03
Your server
What arrives is the traffic you wanted. There is no activation step, no scrubbing detour and no window in which an attack reaches the chassis.
Connectivity
A short path into London.
The facility is carrier-neutral, with fibre routes into the Telehouse and Equinix campuses and carriers including Zayo, euNetworks, Lumen, Virgin, Cogent and Telia on site. Your traffic leaves the edge and lands in Docklands, not in a distant region.

Questions
01 Is protection included?
Yes. Edge shielding and our own mitigation machines are in front of every server from the first packet. There is nothing to enable and no add-on invoice.
02 Where is traffic filtered?
First at the edge, at whichever of 330+ locations is closest to the source. Then on our own mitigation machines in London, immediately before your port.
03 Does it cover more than game traffic?
Yes. Websites, APIs, VPNs, panels and any internet-facing service on the box sit behind the same two layers.
04 Is there a scrubbing detour?
No. Filtering happens in line on the path your traffic already takes, so protection does not mean a trip to a separate scrubbing centre.
05 What do I do during an attack?
Nothing. Malicious traffic is dropped at the edge and your server keeps serving. If something unusual gets through, write to us and we will add a rule for it.
